time header jumps to end of imported audio when trying to record a new mono track [Solved]

I’m using Windows 10 with audacity 3.1.3 … I’m trying to record a mono voice track. With the new track selected and the record button punched, audacity jumps to the end of the imported audio track and there are 2 header lines at the end about 1 inch apart instead of recording on the selected mono track.
I don’t know how to get rid of the header track lines. I must have done something to cause them to be there. The imported audio track is my music
track. The added mono track is for my voice, but so far not recording there …

Thanks for any response…

Larry

To record on a new track, (rather than append an existing track), press “Shift”+“R” keys,
or go to Audacity-preferences-recording & tick the “Record on a new track” box.

After pulling my hair out, finally found my wife had it plugged into the wrong place in back of the computer…
Ever thing works now!
