System/Program Volume

Good evening,

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and for some reason, when I turn up the system volume, Audacity’s volume turns up as well (which makes any bass the song has very distorted). Is there a configuration that will keep the two volumes separate?

That is meant to happen. The system and Audacity volume sliders are linked to each other.

There is no reason that should be the case. Audacity’s volume slider increase reflects the system slider increase, it does not add to the volume increase.

In what application are you listening to the song? Right-click over the speaker icon by the system clock, then choose “Open Volume Mixer”. When Audacity is playing audio, there is a volume slider specific to Audacity in the Volume Mixer. You can turn down the Audacity volume there relative to the system volume.
