My problem isn’t really with Audacity as such, but maybe someone can help. I record using a tascam us22-l unit which has worked fine for years. yesterday, for no reason I understand, audacity stopped recognising my device. when i plug in the usb, instead of holding a steady green light, the light flicks back and forth between the usb and MIDI input indicators, in a strangely rhythmical pattern of fours and threes.
I’ve tried two different usb leads and all the ports on my pc, but the problem persists. i have tried updating my drivers (and updated to the new audacity 2.0 in the process) but the driver update times out every time, because of the aforementioned problem.
Audacity still seems to work fine if i record and then import audio using a broken old mp3 player, but that means I have to use my amplifiers and so forth, and I try and annoy my neighbours and housemates as little as possible. Also, I lose sound quality.
Before I go spanking money I really do not have on things like a new usb cable, a new computer, or a new unit, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Audacity > Edit > Preference > Devices > Recording > Device
Is that pointing toward your recorder?
Just to do it, unplug the recorder and close Audacity. Restart the machine, plug in the recorder when the machine becomes stable and then start Audacity. In exactly that order. Still problems?
Do you have more than one USB sound device? I can’t find the instructions for that unit. Dig in your set and find out if that pattern of flashing lights is significant.
Like for example: 3 and then 2 and then 3 means the internal batteries are failing.

nope. not devices found

fraid so…and there’s no internal battery, it’s powered off the p.c… Having read the instructions thoroughly, there is no significance at all in any patterns of four and threes.
it almost seems like it is perceiving a MIDI signal that isn’t there.
Looks like I’m stuck recording on a half-broken mp3 player unless you have any other ideas. That means I have also lost all all my microphones! Feels a bit like I am rearranging deckchairs on the titanic. Still, audacity works!
Oh, and the other guy, I had the same problem when I first started using audacity. So I put my microphone in a cup of tea, and it solved the problem perfectly.
LOL that made me chuckle.
So Audacity aside, is window’s picking up the device at all? So right click your speaker icon and select Recording Devices (or Properties depending on what flavour of Windows). Do you see the USB recorder? Right click the window and select: Show Disabled Devices.
If it’s not there, try a different USB cable (if you can) and plug it into a different USB port. If window’s recognises it, you should hear the “ding ding” windows makes when it picks up a new USB device.
Audacity will only show devices Window’s recognises.

hi damien.
i tried all those things and none of them worked, it isn’t being recognised at all due to the constant and inexplicable flicking between usb and MIDI.
I have concluded that it is the illuminati, messing with all my stuff again.
