Start recording with script/macro?

I’m trying to help my mother start a recording in audacity. The problem is that she has had a stroke and can’t handle complex commands, so I’m looking for the easiest way for her to start a recording. Preferably I would like to set up a script so she just has to double click a icon on the desktop and audacity launches and automatically starts recording the audio from a microphone.

Is this possible, and how should I go about it?

The hardest part is ensuring that the audio device(s) are set up correctly. I assume that you can set that up for her.

After that it’s just a matter of launching Audacity (you could create a Desktop shortcut), and then either click the Record button or press “R”.
“Spacebar” to stop.

I’m not sure how that could be made easier with a script as you won’t know in advance how long she wants to record for.

You could create a Macro to simplify saving to an appropriate place, and assign a shortcut to run the macro.
