Start In The Middle

I have Windows 7 Professional and I download every newer version of our beloved Audacity. I have audacity 2.2.2 and things have changed. I was talking to a person in chat and I urged her to download Audacity and she balked and said Audacity was too difficult to operate. Indeed, you have to budget some time to learn how to use Audacity and take copious notes. I write down all the functions in simple terms so I have no difficulty following my notes after a long period of time. Luckily I wrote down how to use Audacity to cut out a chunk of a file and make another file out of it. For instance I record JFK’s speech and he says, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” Let’s say I want to cut out the two words, “can do” and make it another file. But I don’t want to wait for the entire speech to elapse. How do I make the green pyramid with the dashed vertical line dangling from it stop at “Ask not”? I’ve tried repeatedly but the green triangle won’t stay put and begin playback where I drag and drop it. How can I perform this function? 90% of what I do with Audacity is record files that have 1% worth keeping and 99% not worth keeping. So I want to quickly get to the part that I want to keep and cut it out and make it a separate file. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Only select the “Ask not” section of the audio.
