Splitting tracks from a side of wax

I’m not finding guidance on what should be a simple task … I am capturing sides of LPs into the Audacity format, so that the file is 7-8 contiguous tracks. I want to chop the first song (~2-3 minutes) and export just that content to an MP3 file without tampering with the rest of the Audacity file, and then do the second song and so forth, until I have 7-8 MP3 files comprising that side of the record.

If you’re willing to guide a newbie through that process, please explain the steps (if simple) or contact me at bsutton@alum.mit.edu, thanks!

You can select/highlight one song at a time and File → Export → Export Selected Audio (one song at a time). You’ll need to zoom-in to find the “exact” beginning and end. I usually select a little extra and then re-open the file for final trimming. (If you do that, export to WAV the 1st time and compress to MP3 only ONCE.)

Or, you can do it more-automatically with Labels.

…I usually combine both sides into one long file first so I can apply the same noise/click reduction and normalization (and maybe EQ, etc.) to the whole album before making individual files.
