Split stereo tracks - which version

Repository version 2.00(Unicode) of Audacity
“Split stereo track to 2 x mono” is not present on Tracks dropdown.

Is this a feature only of later versions? If so, where does it enter the system, and is it better to dump v2.00 and install from source code, or to upgrade to a later version of Ubuntu?

It is in Audacity 2.0.
You may have the wrong menu - it is not the “Tracks” menu from the main menu bar - to get the “Track drop down menu” (the menu for one audio track), click on the name of the track in the panel on the left end of the track: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/track_drop_down_menu.html
