Split audio into several tracks, but can't export???

I’ve got OX El Capitan and Audacity 2.1.0.

I have a single 4 hr mps file that I am trying to split into multiple tracks. Following the Audacity help guide, I labeled selections of the audio at certain breaks. I should be able to export the selections as individual tracks with Export Multiple (under File), but everything is greyed out and I can’t do anything. In fact, almost all my options are greyed out in every tab.

What’s going on??

Click the “Stop” button.

Click the “Stop” button.

And in the upcoming 2.1.3 this will no longer be necessary as we have now fixed it so that you can make edits and exports if you are in Pause mode (but the Pause gets cancelled)
