splicing music into audio interview

I need to make 3 or 4 cuts throughout an audio interview so I can fade in short clips of some songs. How do I make the cuts and then slide the audio (beginning after the cut) over to make room for the songs? The songs are separate tracks, so I can fade them in and out underneath the person talking. Help asap!

So you want to move some of the voices around and insert music that sometimes overlaps with the voices?

Start by cutting and pasting each section of the original voice track into separate tracks. If you have 3 cuts you want to make, you’ll need the voices to take up 4 tracks total.

Move the first voice track to the beginning of the Project’s timeline. Now, use the Time-shift tool to put the first piece of music into place. Then shift the 2nd voice clip into place. Continue with this method until everything is playing at the right time.

Now, use the Envelope tool to adjust the volume of the music clips so it doesn’t interfere too much with the music.

Here’s basic info on the Envelope tool:

There’s a whole separate page on how to use it here:

“Splicing” is the term for when you insert a new sound but the two sounds do not overlap at all. I don’t think that’s what you want, but this method will also allow you to do that as well.
