Use the “Change Speed” effect. https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/change_speed.html

is that the only way to do it?

You don’t like that solution? It’s the best way… I changes speed & pitch together exactly like changing turntable speed.

Apparently the speed wasn’t completely standardized, the equipment may not have been that accurate, and the standard 78 may not have been exactly 78. Of course, record players weren’t perfect in the days of 78’s either.

The only way to know is from the pitch… If a musician can play-along in-tune with a properly tuned instrument the speed is correct. And if you are not a musician trying to play in-tune it’s probably not that important.

It’s the correct way to do it with Audacity.

Set the “Percent Change” to 2.564
The result will be to very slightly speed up the recording (from 78 rpm to 80 rpm).
