No sound on play back. I can play previous recordings, and I can record a new one but no sound when playing it.

Realtek USB Codec speakers functioning properly but not in Audacity?

Help would be appreciated :wink:

Ensure that the correct playback device is selected in the Device Toolbar.

Make sure your USB is plugged in and turned on before starting audacity. Else, select Transport > Rescan.

Trying to. I went to your link clicked the OK button but can’t find the report.

Which version of Audacity do you have (Look in “Help menu > About Audacity”)

Update Audacity to the current version (Audacity 2.4.2 https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/)

Use the “Audacity Windows Installer” version.
During the installation, select the option to “Reset Preferences”.

Updating and resetting Preferences may be sufficient to fix the problem, but if not then we can dig deeper.

downloaded 2.4.2 still no sound on playback

OK, so lets take a look at that “Audio Device Info”:

  1. “Help menu > Diagnostics > Audio Device Info” and wait a few moments for the info to appear.
  2. Click the “Save” button and save the file somewhere convenient.
  3. Attach the saved “deviceinfo.txt” to your reply (see: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1)

Hello Steve, you can forget about this issue. I can now record and play it back. I switched to another set of speakers and set them as the audio out device in Audacity. However I still have no sound otherwise? Any ideas? Windows Media Player problem maybe?

If you haven’t already done so, try cycling through the Audio Host: MME, WIndows Direct Sound, Windows WASAPI. Perhaps one of these will work.

Why do you think this might be a WMP problem - Didn’t you say “speakers are functioning properly”?
