Sound levels wrong on mobile

OK so I have mixed two tracks and they sound perfect on the app and great on the player on my laptop but when I play the resulting track on mobile what is supposed to be the backing track is way too loud and nothing like the desktop reproduction. It sounds fine on some peoples devices but terrible on mine and some others. Any idea how to get consistency here?

Your left and right channels are probably out-of-phase. When played on a mono speaker, whatever is the same in the left & right will cancel. (if both sides are identical you’ll get silence. If the vocals are in the “center” they will be eliminated, etc.)

Where did the tracks come from? It would be best to solve the root problem and start over.

Or there are a couple of other things you can try:

Split Stereo Track allows you to edit the left & right channels together. Then you can select just one channel and Effect → Special → Invert. (This could create the opposite problem, killing (or messing-up the backing track.)

Or click the little “X” to the left of the track name to kill one side, and then export as mono. A mono track will play-back through both speakers on a regular stereo setup. (Of course, this will kill anything that exists on only side.)

Thank you. One is a track of sounds downloaded from freesound.org and the other is an ai voice track from elevenlabs

I just changed the volume of the backing to what sounded good, mixed and rendered and then exported as mp3 as that’s how it will be used, should I do it another way? Totally new to this as you will have gathered

You might want to check and see if the different devices you are playing the audio on have different equalization settings.

Problem is I need it to be saleable and work on any device without settings changes

Try both files one at a time on your phone to figure out which one has the problem (probably the voice track).0 Then try one of the above methods to correct it before mixing.

…But note that there are certain “fake stereo” or “stereo widening” effects that just don’t work properly in mono and they can’t be undone.

And maybe in the future, download your files from somewhere else…

Wish I could but options are limited due to finance
