I am using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit operating system and Audacity 2.3.3 I used my USB turntable and an older version of Audacity with my old PC. I had no issues exporting as a wave file. This is a relatively new PC and downloaded Audacity 2.3.3 for use. I am able to make a recording in Audacity from vinyl. I noticed that there was no playthrough while recording. I was able to save as a project in Audacity and use Audacity to play the recorded music. I tested exporting as both a wave file and an MP3 file using the default settings. I attempted to play both file formats with Windows media player and there was no sound. I also imported both file formats into Nero Wave editor (21.0.1001). There was no sound when attempting to play either file format. Within Nero, both formats seem to indicate that there is sound to play but the screens are “greyed” out. I have attached a document with screen prints for both Audacity and Nero. I would like to resolve both issues, but prefer that the issue with exported files be tackled first. Thanks

If you open a new, empty Audacity window and “Import” (File menu) the file that you exported:
- Do you see the waveform in Audacity?
- Can you hear the track when you click the Play button?
I imported both the Wave file and the MP3 file and the sound data was “active” (not greyed out) and I was able to play the files with Audacity. Thank you.
Here is an update: I found that the default playback setting in the control panel had been reset to the USB turntable. I reset the default to my computer speakers. I was able to hear the WAVE and MP3 files with both Windows Media player and the Nero software. The sound data was still a lighter blue in Nero, however I was able to edit the files as I normally would - cut out excess parts, etc. and save the files. The display still seems a bit unusual, but if I can work with the files, that does not seem to be a show stopper. I made a new recording using Audacity and the reset default PC settings. I was still not hearing the playback on my PC speakers during the recording, but I can monitor the sound via the USB turntable speakers so that is also not a show stopper. If you have any suggestions regarding the playthrough sound issues, I will be happy to try them. For the most part, however, I am up and running with the new version. Your assistance is appreciated.

This might be a dumb question but is Software Playthrough enabled?
I had looked at a lot of the preferences but did not see that one. It was not checked. I enabled the option and the issue has been resolved. Thank you.
