Hi iv just started using Audacity as recommended from a friend, great program by the way. The problem iv got is that when i record from my amp to the computer, via headphone socket to mic socket on my laptop (dualcore t5500 1.67GHz 2MB ram), the sound is fine for the first few seconds but then filters out all high end frequencies and/or sounds really compressed?? it doesn’t happen when i record from my electronic drum kit, any ideas or suggestions???
You’re overdriving that mic input horribly.
Headphones level and Line Level are fairly close (though not perfectly matched), but the input that the Mic In is expecting is tiny compared to both of those other levels.
You want to plug the headphone output into a Line Input, not a Mic Input.
