I have Audacity 2.2.2 on Windows and was adding audio files to a project when Audacity unexpectedly shut down. I reopened the two projects I had had opened and an option appeared asking if I would like to recover what had been lost in the crash. I requested it do so and the two projects opened. The one opened normally with all files intact. The other, however, features each audio black as a flat line without any sound except for the one I just added before the crash. So the blocks are all there, they’re the right lengths and at the right time, but they’re all blank.
Closing and reopening the file didn’t help nor did restarting Audacity or my computer. I am completely baffled by this, but I would think the audio files are still there since the editor has the area blocked out for them. I would very much like to recover this work, so all ideas are welcome. Thanks.
Perhaps you selected the option “Replace missing audio with silence (permanent immediately):”
I don’t believe so, (I certainly hope not). If I did, is there any way to undo this?
No, as it says, it’s permanent.
