Sound Cards

Here is my problem:

I’m, new at this Windows 7/64 bits and having downloaded the redistribution files for Windows 7 64 bits. I’m using audacity 2.0.5. I have noticed that when trying to record a HZ file my (R) channel is flat and it does not record in Stereo mode. My on board ASUS audio component seems to be the culprit. I need a solid sound card with proper back plugins jacks to be able to plug in my HZ Generator.(a data cable for microphone connector will do). What do you suppose or advise me to get as a good and solid audio card? Then I can make it my default and make use of the audacity software as I used to on my old Windows XP Pro.

My old Windoes XP system used a default audio card called SB X-Fi audio (EC00) is this still valid or need I get a better one. Your input and advice please.

What??? What kind of connectors does your signal generator have?

Here are the standard soundcard color codes.

If you have a laptop, you probably only have a mono microphone input. In that case, you can get a USB audio interface. Your audio signal generator is probably approximately line-level (around 1V).

You probably don’t need stereo. I assume your signal generator has only one output?

You can also use Generate → Tone on Audacity’s menu, and you may not need to record tones.
