smooth transition between equalizers

Hello,

I am using Audacity 1.3.14-beta (Unicode) on Mac OS X 10.7.5.

I was wondering if there is a meathod to create smooth transitions between two equalizers. Specifically, I created a certain filter in a section of a recording in order to eliminate some unwanted sounds. The filter works great, but now the moment of its beginning is very conspicuous. The only way I found to smooth this over was to create some 20 intermediate filters over tiny time streaches before the main filter’s beginning. The result was fine but not perfect, and needless to say this method is tedious and rather primitive. What would be perfect for me is a function in which one could set a gradual transition between two equalizers over a certain amount of time. Unfourtunatley I know nothing in programming so I couldn’t try to create this myself…

Thanks!

Or, you could duplicate the show, Command-D, equalize one of them and then gracefully fade between them with the envelope tools — two white arrows and bent blue line.

As waxcylinder wrote, “crossfading” is the solution:
Often, a very short crossfade will be sufficient (just a few milliseconds), but if the equalization difference is very great then you may need a more gradual transition (longer crossfade).
