Slow speed in v2.1.0.rc2

I rerecord speech at 128 kbps, stereo, 44100. On v2.0.6 5 minutes speech takes 6 to 10 seconds to record on v2.1.0 5 minutes speech takes 20 to 40 seconds. This increase in time is on 2 PC both running WIN 7. what can I be doing wrong

What do you mean when you say that? Audacity records in lossless PCM, so by by default that would be 44100 Hz * 2 channels * 32-bit float = 2822.4 kbps.

I don’t understand what you are doing. If you record or re-record 5 minutes of speech it should take 5 minutes.

Are you talking about exporting an MP3 at 128 kbps?

Sorry I wrote wrong info, you are correct I saved info at 128 and I takes 3 times as long to save in V2.2.0 as in V2.0.6

We don’t make v2.2.0 so I assume you still mean 2.1.0rc2?

Anyway yes, thank you there seems to be some difference here.

On Windows 8.1, HDD, 2.4 GHz, 6 GB RAM, I deleted the audacity.cfg settings file then in 2.1.0rc2, generated a 30 minutes tone and saved it as a project.

Then I exported three times to each of MP3 (which would be at 128 kbps), OGG and WAV to a drive with only 2 GB of space, deleting the exported file immediately. Then I repeated the test in 2.0.6.

2.1.0rc2 exports averaged out at MP3 100 seconds, OGG 20 seconds, WAV 70 seconds.

2.0.6 exports averaged out at MP3 40 seconds, OGG 20 seconds, WAV 15 seconds.

Exporting to a drive wth 800 GB space is a little quicker in both Audacity versions, but with the same marked difference for MP3 and WAV.

Hmm. OK, we’ll discuss if we can do anything about this, assuming others see it.
