A friend and I are trying to start podcasting. We want to record a double-ender. We each have a Blue Yeti and Audacity on MacOS. My Audacity only picks up my voice, through my mic. But her Audacity picks up both her voice and mine, which is presumably entering her computer through Skype. We cannot figure out how this is happening. We have, as far we can tell, absolutely identical preference settings in MacOS, Audacity, and Skype. We each have our Yetis as the input device on Audacity. We have “Automatically Adjust Microphone Settings” turned off in Skype.
Any thoughts of what could be going on here?
her voice and mine, which is presumably entering her computer through Skype.
Oddly enough, maybe not.
Make sure Audacity is using your microphone proper for recording (toolbar next to the microphone symbol) and not Stereo Mix, What-U-Hear or any one of the other settings. These odd settings are used (without Skype) if you want to record YouTube or other internet sound. You Must change these settings for plain microphone recording.
Pull down the list of recording devices from the Audacity toolbar (microphone symbol). Note which one is selected. Unplug the Yeti and Transport > Rescan. Did the right device vanish? Plug the Yeti back in, wait a bit and Transport > Rescan.
