Hi, I downloaded the Whiplash.exe (for Windows) from Release Whiplash 1.0.1 · Sinistral-Synths/Whiplash · GitHub and then installed the Whiplash VST3 plugin (which is in it’s respective folder with the other plugins I’ve also installed before and that are working in Audacity) but it won’t appear in the Effects tab even when I rescan the available plugins. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity, and I reinstalled the plugin but it still won’t show up. I don’t know what to do.
“ “Instrument” versions of plugins (VSTi, LV2i) are not supported.”

Thanks but the file format of the plugin (on my PC) says it’s .vst3…
Usually “synthesiser” = instrument, (even if it makes noise, rather than musical notes) .
Even if it’s VST effect , (rather than VST instrument), not all VST effects are compatible with Audacity.
Ok, thx, but then do you know which DAWs I could use whiplash on properly? I’m trying to use it on Ableton Live 11 Lite but it won’t do much either (or maybe I don’t know how to apply it well, because I’m trying to drag the .vst3 onto the same track as a .wav file but it won’t let me).
Try a free VST from a professional source, e.g. …
I can confirm this works in Audcaity
Audacity isn’t a full DAW.
On the home page it says, “Audacity is the world’s most popular audio editing and recording app”.
Is this a virtual instrument or a plug-in effect? I don’t know much about virtual instruments, but they don’t work in Audacity. You’ll need a DAW or other application that supports MIDI.
With 3rd-party effect plug-ins, compatibility is up to the plug-in developer.
With commercial plug-ins there is usually a list of officially-supported hosts. if you go to the Auto-Tune website you will find a list or compatible DAWs. Sometimes it works if not officially supported but if not, “you can’t complain”.
(Auto-Tune does not officially support Audacity and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work.)
With free 3rd-party effects it’s usually just hit-or-miss.
Ok, thanks. I think it’s a plugin effect…
