Assuming that your amp has left/right “phono” connectors (RCA connectors RCA connector - Wikipedia) you will need a “stereo ‘shielded’ RCA” cable.
That depends on what inputs your laptop has. If your laptop has a 1/8" stereo mini-jack connector then you could use a “2 x RCA to 1/8” stereo mini-jack" connector.
But, if you’re on a Windows laptop, chances are good you’re not going to have a good stereo input. You’re more likely to have just Mic-In and Headphone-Out like this.
thanks for the help - i have now ordered a sennheiser uca202. now my last question is, from the diagram it looks simple & quick to set-up, but what do i plug the uca202 into my djm-500 mixer ??
i have clicked on the link that steve has provided on where i plug the uca202 on the last posting, but the click takes me back to page 2. where do i plug the uca202 into my pioneer djm-500 ??
“I presume that you have the “Master Out” connected to your amp, in which case you can connect the “booth monitor” out to the computer.”
As your “connection to the computer” will now be via the UCA 202…
I presume that you have the “Master Out” connected to your amp, in which case you can connect the “booth monitor” out to the inputs of the UCA 202.
after finally getting my uca202 in the post - i have been unsuccessfully to use it. i seem to be still picking up any sounds as i am recording - breathing sounds, movement sounds- such as getting my next 12" & what i record still sounds tinny & echoey ??
please help - as i am losing patience & hope that i can successfully move on tehcnologically & not go back to using audio cassettes ???
You are probably recording from the laptop’s built in microphone and not from the UCA 202.
Try tapping your laptop near the built-in mic - Does the recording pick that up loudly?
It is really difficult to help you gmc76a when you don’t respond to our suggestions - we can’t see your computer and we can’t see what you are doing. If you want help, then when suggestions are made you need to try them and tell us (a) exactly what you did and (b) exactly what happened, otherwise we are all wasting our time.
OK, so that identifies the problem of why unwanted sounds are being recorded - you are currently recording from the laptop microphone and not from the UCA 202.
If they are, then check that the UCA 202 is securely plugged into a USB port (or try a different USB port), then close Audacity (completely exit the program) and restart Audacity.
