Selecting gaps between audio

Hello,
I’m very new to using audacity so appreciate any help.

I am trying to select all gaps in between audio to use the silence function only once.

Currently I am spending hours manually selecting every single gap in between my audio.

I do not want to remove the gaps, I need the gaps for the correct delivery. Just want to find a way to select all the gaps in one go, is there a function that does this?

Thank you for your help.

Not sure exactly what you mean. Are you wanting to silence all the parts of a recording that have only background noise?
If so, then you can use the “Noise Gate” plug-in. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Noise_Gate
“Noise Gate” is a “Nyquist Plug-in”.
Installation instructions: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_effect_generator_and_analyzer_plug_ins_on_mac_os_x.html#nyquist_install

Note that the next release of Audacity will have a slightly improved version of the Noise Gate built in, so you will probably want to remove this version when you update to Audacity 2.4.0 (due for release around the end of Q1 2020).
