I did “Save project as.” But then as I go along and make edits, periodically have tried to save again (especially since I have had Audacity crash on me before). “Save Project” is not responding–is grayed out. Seems it gave me the option once to “Save Project” after it had not before and has not since.
If Stop isn’t working, try Audacity > Quit Audacity then press Cancel when it asks if you want to save changes. Do not press No or you will lose your changes.
Are you using the latest Audacity 2.0.3 ? Please look at Audacity > About Audacity for the three section version number. Lots of people say they are using the latest version, but they aren’t.
It quit without prompting me to save changes. Did not crash quit, just quit.
I have to leave for an appointment, so don’t have time to open file and check if some of my latest (subtle) edits are there. Will do when I return in a few hours.
Am hoping!
Is there a way to avoid this happening? Is there something I might have done or not done to trigger the graying of Save and Stop button not working?
Are you sure there were unsaved changes? For example, if you you did File > Save Project, made an edit then undid that edit, Save Project will be greyed out because in that project state there are no changes to save since the last save.
If there were in reality unsaved changes but Audacity did not ask you to save changes, then technically it crashed so it should offer to recover the unsaved changes when you restart it.
See above for why Save Project may be grayed. Stop will only be active if you are playing or recording, or pausing playback or recording.
