Retround cassette player won't work with audacity

Got a new Retround cassette player to transfer tapes to my WIndows 7 pc. I am using the latest version of audacity which I just downloaded. Audacity program doesn’t seem to recognize the cassette player. When I play the cassette I get sound from the cassette player but nothing in audacity. But the monitor green bars bounce around as if something is being received. I am using a Dell xps 8700 pc and using the USB port on the front of the pc.

Any ideas?

Maybe it is recording… When you click Record do you see a waveform?

To hear what you’re recording, turn on Software Playthrough and make sure you’ve selected your regular speakers/headphones as your Playback Device. (And of course, select your USB device as the Recording Device.)

Finally got something to record but there is a lot of background noise with visible spikes in the sound waves. Makes the recording worthless.

It should sound identical to the analog you’re hearing from the cassette player (except you might be using different speakers, etc.).

Are you getting dropouts?
