Ever since I upgraded to v3.3.2 (and I probably skipped a few interim upgrades!) I’ve noticed that when exporting a file Audacity overwrites the old version completely as a default, rather than creating a ‘backup’ copy of the old version with an ‘-old’ suffix like it used to, and I can’t find an option in any of the settings that allows you to change it back to how it used to be. I know some people previously found the automated backup annoying but I’m just waiting for the day when I overwrite something by mistake and then regret it! Has the old ‘backup’ functionality now been removed completely or is there a way of reinstating it?
That feature has gone, and I think it is unlikely to return.
I think you best option is to get into the habit of never overwriting on export. (Audacity does still ask you to confirm overwriting).
