Removing only one audio track?

Hm, I tried to post this already but it looks like it didn’t show up…

Hi everyone, my name is Tom. I just joined and I don’t know if I’m posting in the right section or anything but I don’t really know much about forums or any of that. I actually just wanted to ask you a question that I can’t seem to find the answer to anywhere else. I have an mp3 file of a duet song. I was wondering if there is a way to only get rid of one of the voices and keep the other singer? I’ve seen it done before with other songs and I understand that it may or may not work on certain files depending on how it was made, but if I were to try this, how would I go about doing it? And if it’s not possible on audacity could anyone direct me to where it could be?

Thank you so much,

Tom

Due to the amount of spam we have had to introduce a “moderation queue” so that messages do not appear on the forum until they have been seen by one of the forum helpers. Posts will normally be approved pretty quickly and we apologise for the inconvenience, but it was considered better than subjecting all the genuine forum users to a forum riddled with spam.

Unless you have an original multi-track recording with each singer on a different track, then most probably no.
