Removing noise

Hi all,

I’m using Audacity 2.0.5 on a OS Lion 10.7.5. I’m trying to remove noise from the audio of a video clip. I use the Noise removal effect as explained on the wiki

http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Noise_Removal

It works on the silent parts, but on the fragments with dialogue the noise is still “attached” to the words. I have tried the sliders in the effect with no results, the Notch filter won’t work because is not a continuous noise, just a small one registered at the same time of the dialogue and stuck to it.

I have checked the FAQ’s and have not seen anything helpful.

Any ideas on this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

You can’t remove noise from dialog — the actual words — without the dialog becoming damaged. The “Smoothing” setting in Noise Removal controls how Audacity “goes around” dialog when it’s removing noise. If you have well-behaved noise like quiet air-conditioning, you may not notice that the dialog is still noisy because the rest of the performance is quiet. But if you have moving or changing noise and it’s loud enough, we can’t do anything for you.
