Remote selection of playlist items

On computer A I want to create an Audacity playlist consisting of about a dozen voice messages, each message being a few seconds long.

Then on computer B I want to select any of the messages at random for playback, by sending some sort of ASCII command string via a COM port to computer A.

Is there any capability within Audacity that will let me send ASCII commands to it to select individual playlist items? Or any other capability for remote playlist selection?

Audacity doesn’t have playlists like iTunes or Window Media and there’s no good way to individually select clips on a timeline, or mute/reveal clips stacked. So the initial assumptions may not work.
