Hi,
I just had audacity crash on me. When I went to use the recovery tool (as i have in the past) it recovers a recording i made to check levels before my main recording that i do not want. Is there a way to make the recovery tool recover my most recent file that was open when i had the crash?
I would really apreciate any help people can offer as it was a pretty long project that got deleted and i dont know my sanity could take starting all over again
What version number of Audacity? The latest is 2.0.5 ( http://audacityteam.org/download/windows ) . There should not be frequent Audacity crashes in recent Audacity versions.
What version of Windows?
Each project window that was open has its own āautosaveā file ( http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_projects.html#autosave ) that Audacity recovers from.
If the main recording was in a different project window than the test recording, open Audacityās folder for application data:
- Windows 2000/XP: Documents and SettingsApplication DataAudacity
- Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8: UsersAppDataRoamingAudacity
and look in the āAutoSaveā folder. You may have to show hidden files and folders to do this (see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/ ).
In the āAutoSaveā folder, look for any .TMP files. If there are any, rename the latest .TMP file to ā.autosaveā extension (without quotes) instead of ā.TMPā.
Now launch Audacity and see if it will recover the recording.
If the main recording was in the same project window as the test, then please attach the autosave file. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 . There may be something we can fix in that file, or there may be audio data in the _data folder that can be manually recovered.

Hi Gale, thank you so much for your reply and help. I have now located the file so am very happy. I will update now as using an old version so hopefully less problems in future. Thanks again
Good
I will mark this [SOLVED] then.
