recording

I am new to audacity and I am trying to make a video music CD to assist people in Retirement Centers. I have a Mackie Profx8v2 board that I am using the USB port plugging into my laptop. The way this seems to be working is that I open up Audacity to record. I then minimize it down and open the Camera on my Windows 10 program. I am recording the video and my playing and when I am through I shut down the camera and program, then bring up Audacity and shut it down. Is this the only way to do this. Thanks for any help.

Does your video recording program not record audio?

It does but only through the laptop which is not good quality. By running Audacity at the same time I am using the video recorder, the sound is 100% better.

The better alternative would be to use a video recording program that allows you to record from the Mackie. I’m quite surprised that you can’t do that with the video recording program that you are currently using.

Have you tried setting the Mackie as the default recording device in the Windows Sound settings to see if your video recording program will pick it up?
