Recording

I am new at this. I start recording and then how can I stop the recording and re-start in the same place. When I push the stop button it restarts in a new tract. When I push the pause button and then unpause, it does not re-start. So again, I would like to pause the recording and then pick-up where I left off on the same tract. How do I do this. Thanks,

Elliott

You must be using an old version of Audacity. Get the current version from here: Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS

In the current version, clicking the record button (or pressing the “R” key) will continue the recording on the same track. Shift + click the record button (or “Shift + R”) records to a new track.

That’s a different question. The P (pause) key will do that. P to pause the recording and P again to resume. I wouldn’t do that for delay of hours, but if you need a short pause, this is your key.

You can change the behavior of the R keys in Audacity > Preferences > Recording.
