I have a mac 10.7.5 and am using version 2.0.3 of Audacity. I got a disc with my purchase and it has the .dmg installer. I am trying to convert records to digital files. I’m not quite sure what settings to use, as neither the hard copy manual that came with the audio-technica turntable, nor the on line audacity manual seem to match the dialog boxes that come up on my screen. At one point it was creating a digital file and I could hear the record through my computer speakers, but the next time I tried it and since then, it doesn’t record. When I press the start button, I get an error message that says Error while opening sound device, check input device settings and the project sample rate. What should I do?
2.0.3 is very old now. I recommend you upgrade to the current Audacity 2.1.2 from http://audacityteam.org/download/mac. Then the online Manual http://manual.audacityteam.org/ will match with your Audacity version.
Then see this Tutorial Recording with USB turntables or USB cassette decks. Connect the turntable before launching Audacity. Check the USB cable is tight at both ends.
When Audacity is open. select the USB Audio CODEC for the turntable as recording device in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.
Change to a new USB cable if problems persist.
