I have just installed the Audacity program and it seems to be recording my voice thru the headset perfectly. The only problem I have is that I can not record anything playing on the internet
or my phone conversations on Avaya. The sounds tab shows my Plantronics headset speakers and recording device as well. I have windows 7. Any Ideas. ??
I tried disconnecting the plantronics headset and plugging in just a standard headset with out a mic, still nothing. Tried without any headset just the pc speakers, still no luck.!!
Can anyone provide an idea??
Thank You!!
Please see Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual . You must select the correct input in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.
If these are USB headsets or headphones, the only way you can record audio playing through those is using the Windows WASAPI host in Device Toolbar.

Thank You, a little clarity please,
The instruction manual is not that clear…Can you expand your answer for me please???
I tried WASAPI and still will not record!!
Sorry, we can’t just repeat what is already written there. Where you see some blue text, click on it for more information.
If you are still not sure, please open Help > Audio Device Info… top right of Audacity, right-click, choose Select All, right-click, choose Copy and paste the information here.
Also what is “Avaya”? It looks like a smartphone or an internet conversation system. Audacity does not record both sides of internet conversations - you’ll need special software.
If you want to record YouTube, you can instead download the videos using suitable software, if you have copyright holders’ permission.

This is what I show...Thank You so Much!!!!!
Thanks. What are the Audacity version numbers at Help > About Audacity…?
You don’t have seem to have any playback or recording devices enabled in Windows except the Plantronics device.
If the headphones (not the wireless Plantonics device) connect to the green audio out of the computer, you can listen in those headphones and record something playing in the browser if you enable the motherboard playback device and the motherboard stereo mix or what U hear recording device in Windows Sound. This assumes the motherboard sound device has stereo mix or what U hear for recording computer playback. See Windows Sound for how to show and enable all audio devices.
The only easy way you can record audio playing in the Plantronics will be by choosing WASAPI host in Audacity, Plantronics speakers for playback and Plantronic speakers (loopback) for recording. WASAPI only seems to see one playback channel (mono), so as it stands you may want to set the Audacity recording channels to mono (to right of the (loopback) choice). Start playing the stream before you start recording in Audacity.
When you are in Windows Sound, in the Playback tab, right-click over the Plantronics device, choose Properties, then click the “Advanced” tab. See if there is a stereo playback choice in “Default Format”.
The Plantronics device seems to have a control panel. You could look there just in case there is some setting to play or record both sides of the call, but I think it unlikely. Otherwise you will need special software to record both sides, or perhaps you can try VB-Audio VoiceMeeter.
You did not say what “Avaya” was.
