Recording while listening to the track

I don’t know how to record myself playing my sax while I the back up track is playing as well, when I click record, the back up track stops playing

That’s “Perfect Overdubbing,” where you hear a theatrically perfect mix of new and old in your headphones.

That’s harder than you think because you can’t do that by listening to the computer. You can listen to the headphone connection inside your special microphone…

… Or your microphone preamp…

…Or your USB mixer or the connection to your analog mixer’s interface…

I think that’s the whole list.

It’s also possible to recompile the Audacity program to work with ASIO software. It’s a licensing issue. In that case, you can listen to the computer. You compile programs all the time, right?

We wrote a thing about the special adjustments and settings for overdubbing. If you don’t need to hear yourself, this is actually relatively easy.

Do you have overdubbing selected in the Audacity preferences?

Edit > preferences > Recording > overdub.

I believe you also do NOT want Playthrough selected. That will give you your own performance with an echo on it.
