hello
I was looking for some advice on recording straight from my xdj-r1 to a DELL Latitude E6430 laptop.
I am currently feeding from L + R cables in the back of my mixer (Booth In/Out) straight into my headphone port as this laptop does not have a line in/microphone assigned slot, although having done a bit of research I think I can change the port to recording playback but im unsure on how to do this. Ive tried all input and output options in audacity but it still wont record. was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, I think there is a way of doing it but im not sure, ive heard a usb audio interface would make things simpler?
cheers
It would make things work at all.
This is a Behringer UCA-202. The UCA-222 and UFO-202 also work. The UFO model has an on-board Phono Preamp.

It’s also one of the three hardware devices I certified for Perfect Overdubbing should you need that.

The Internet says it has a USB interface. Does the USB port on your DJ gizmo work for audio out?

Just for future reference in case you ever want to use a computer mic - Your computer probably has a TRRS combo jack with an extra contact for a mono computer microphone. (The iPhone has the same kind of connector so you can plug-in a headset with a mic into one socket.)
It’s the wrong interface for your mixer’s line-level outputs and it’s the wrong interface for any good stage/studio microphone. You’ll need an adapter cable if you want to plug-in a normal computer mic.
