I have an Acer Aspire E1-531 laptopOS Windows 8 . I am trying to transfer music from tape cassettes to MP3 using a cassetrte player connected by USB.
When I press record on Audacity, I only get some sort of “atmospheric” similar to noise when you try to tune a TV or radio.
Can you please advise the correct setting on the laptop to allow recording with Audacity. I have tried different versions of Audacity with no success.

You should be using Audacity 2.0.6 for Windows.

Both Windows and Audacity have to understand all about the cassette player. Audacity gets its sound from Windows, so if Windows is doing anything wrong, Audacity is hosed.
