Recording tracks always time shifts

Hello, whenever I try and record a new track it is always time shifted forwards by about half a second. This happens even if I have ensured the marker is right at the beginning of the track when I start recording. The behaviour is 100% consistent. It is very irritating as I then have to drag it back to be in time with other tracks that I have recorded. Has anybody else had this issue?

Which version of Audacity do you have? (Look in “Audacity menu > About Audacity”)

What are your “Latency” settings in “Preferences > Devices”?

Version: 2.4.2

Latency
Buffer Length: 100
Latency Compensation -130

Is there not a setting to automatically adjust recordings back according to this latency>

Now I know to use ‘latency’ as a search term I have been able to find a solution on YouTube - where you just do a test to find the latency drift and adjust it accordingly. It’s a shame that Audacity cannot do this automatically.

Are the tracks now lining up correctly for you?

Yes, isn’t it. In the past there were attempts to make the adjustment automatic, but so far it has not been possible to do accurately and reliably.

Thanks for your help, yes I am able to line-up the tracks more easily now - which looks like the best possible solution for now.
