Recording threshold [CLOSED]

I need to do recordings where microphone records only voice above certain threshold like in Teamspeak 3 for example. There is an option in Audactity for voice activated recording but with this option time for recording is flowing only when there is voice loud enough. How can I do this? And if this is impossible in Audacity then what other simple program could I use? And if not simple then maybe Reaper which I also use?

You are describing a Noise Gate. In Audacity it’s called the “Gate” effect.

Note that Audacity doesn’t apply effects in real time (or while recording). The effects have to be applied in post-production.

Thank you. That will do but it would be best if that would be possible in realtime. Any way to do that in Audacity? Or if not in other recording software?

Audacity doesn’t do real-time effects.

Most DAW applications can do it.

Of course if you apply an effect during recording, you can’t un-do it.

Ok then I’ll look into how to do it in Reaper. Topic can be closed I think. Thanks again
