Hi, there:
When recording stero mix [Audacity 2.4.2 / Windows 10 Pro] the audio gets a bit of distortion and reverb. How can I solve this problem?
Thanks.
a bit of distortion and reverb.
That can come from two places: Windows Enhancements and sound processing left over from Zoom, Skype or other chat app. Make sure your chat programs are really closed and not sitting in the background waiting for a call. Restart the machine and don’t let anything start other than Audacity.
RIght-click the speaker symbol in the lower right and drill down to the recording sound panels. Turn off any processing or enhancements.
That work?
Koz
Not really. AFAIK no chat application was open. So I tried to change settings of recording sound panels but couldn’t find any anhancement.
Unfortunately I tried to look in the audio controller settings and changed the levels for stereo mix, and now there is a constant buzz I can’t get rid of… Help!
Ok. Buzz problem is solved. I had checked something else, and now unchecked buzz is gone - sorry, nooby here )
I see in the task manager this, could be that the audio enhancement problem?
When recording stero mix
What are you actually trying to record? Streaming audio? From the microphone built-into your laptop? Something else?
For streaming audio try WASAPI loopback instead of Stereo Mix.
Here is some information on “enhancements” but I believe WASAPI loopback will bypass any enhancements (with streaming audio).
Yes, I’m trying to record streaming audio .
I tried with WASAPI Loopback but the result is not very good (well in this case it was audio from Musescore but the problem is the same if it is audio from YT or Spotify) [Flies attached for reference]
Check that your computer microphone is muted.
Unfortunately I get the same result with the mic muted.
Maybe I’m not listening carefully enough but I’m not hearing distortion or excess reverb. With a quick-listen the “original” sounds “brighter” (more treble) and the WASAPI copy is louder.
(The online services do alter the loudness as they try to volume-match everything, and they use lossy compression.)
it was audio from Musescore but the problem is the same if it is audio from YT or Spotify)
Just to clarify… You created the “original” in Musescore, then you played the original while recording with WASAPI loopback?

Yes, maybe I should clarify the context.
I record lessons in which I talk and use examples from Musescore. I record my voice with my phone and the playback from the Musescore examples with the computer, then I combine the tracks and mute the parts where there is the Ms playback in the phone track. (Maybe there is as easier way to do it, but I couldn’t figure out. Editing every MS example with the “original sound” just exported from the program would take me forerver, and that is why I tried this workaround).
