Please help me with this problem:
Every time I place the selection tool where I want to start my recording, I click on the “record” button and the cursor starts recording minutes later on the timeline. I am unable to work on my music projects 
If you are using Audacity 2.3.1, and the currently selected track has the right number of audio channels (mono or stereo), clicking the record button will start recording at the cursor position, or the end of the track, whichever is the later.
If you wish to record before the end of the track, you need to record to a new track. To do that, hold down the Shift key when you click the record button, or “Shift + R”.
