My PC is running Windows 7 and Audacity 2.1.2. In the past I have recorded music shows for broadcasting - but only by recording first the music, and then the voice, and then cutting and pasting the two together which is time-consuming and laborious! Is it possible to switch between my USB mic and the recorded music input in real-time (i.e. without pausing the recording to make the switch of “recording device”)? In other words, I want to be able to record a music show in real-time. Is this possible with Audacity? Thanks

But post-production editing is not error prone. The first time you make a live mistake in your show (or the dog barks), you either stop and start over, or make a note where the mistake is and try to patch it later. Remember, if you’re directly producing a mixed show, both the music and the voice will have to be patched if you fluff a word. This can wipe out all your time savings.
You need a mixer
What he said.
That was a test I did a while ago. The machine in the left is playing music into the mixer and recording the mix in Audacity. You can’t see it, but I have a head-mounted microphone connected to the mixer.
In that particular illustration, the machine on the right is running Skype and I’m talking to Denise four time zones away. That’s just another connection to the mixer. No bloody, pitched battle for Sound Settings Dominance which is what happens if you try to do it all on one machine.
I am, basically, doing my own radio show. It was just a test, so the results were terrible for coordination and production values, but all the sound worked perfectly.
