recording make it a chipmunk

I can play audio files no problem.
Recording makes a small recording, and playing that back sounds like a chipmunk played fast. Slowing it down doesn’t fix it.

This problem started a couple of years ago, and I moved to other software. Now I’m back.
To fix this problem I’ve tried compiling from source (as of july31/2020) (details below) and the problem remains.

I’ve reset the configuration,
input is pulse mic 0, alsa
project rate is 44000Hz

I’ve attached the dignostics file.

I’m on Linux Mint, 19.03 (or something similar to that number).
