Recording Issue - Windows 10

Hello, I’m trying to record through my Novation Nio audio interface (which also goes through the nioFxRack software). I can record one (stereo or mono) channel of sound, but when I try to record another channel, i get an error message saying -9985. I can still play back the recorded audio.
If I change the “playback” dropbox from “Line Out (nio 2|4)” to “Speakers/Headphones (Realtek(R)”, then I can record more channels, but as I record, I can’t hear the playback through my nio - only through the laptop speakers. Does this suggest that my nio can’t record and playback audio at the same time? I’ve used this thing on Windows 7 for years now, but I’m only just trying to get it working on Windows 10.

I have a dell inspirion windows 10 laptop, using a novation nio 2|4 audio mixer/interface, and my audacity version is 2.3.3

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here is the user manual page about multitrack recording but from what I see here on the forum nobody uses Audacity for multi-tracking.

Your interface may have come with Ableton Live and I’d recommend using it, or some other multi-track DAW.

Ah, sorry, I didn’t mean that I’m trying to record two channels at once.

If I record one channel, and then try to overdub it - that’s what causes the crash

Is it possible that it’s something to do with the laptops soundcard? I would assume not though, since the nio acts as it’s own soundcard, right?
