Recording in true stereo 2

Hi. I too have the same problem. When using a USB turntable directly into USB port, or when using turntable or cassette deck via Ion URecord interface into laptop USB port, only the left (white) channel is recorded across both channels in Audacity.

Further diagnosis - when I pull out the white channel RCA plug, I still get both Audacity channels recording; when I pull out the red channel RCA plug I get nothing. I have tried different cables, different USB ports, and the microphone input (dreadful levels) but still the same problem. I’ve eliminated the turntable, cassette deck, Ion interface, and cables as source of problem. I reckon it the USB port, Windows7 config or Audacity config.

Spec : I’m using HP EliteBook8460p laptop. Windows7. The device driver info is Generic USB hub (2 off), Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller (2 off), Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller, Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub, USB Composite device, USB Root Hub (2 off).

I have checked and played with the appropriate config settings and cannot solve this problem. (Note - Audacity does record proper stereo from a streamed input such as YouTube).

Any advice/solution greatly appreciated. It shouldn’t be this hard, but I’m stumped.

Moderator note: please do not piggy back on existing threads, even if you think your problem is similar. Always start a new thread otherwise mutliple conversations occur in the piggybacked thread which gets mighty confusing for everyone. I split this one off for you.

Why are you using the RCA plugs as well as the USB - fior a USB TT you would normally just deliver the signal to the PC via USB - and don’t use a USB hub with Audacity. But do make sure the RCA plugs are electrically isolated from each other.
