I’m experiencing a problem in Audacity 3.6.4 where tiny portions of words I recorded are skipped, creating a jumpy glitchy sound in the recording. There are no gaps or silences, the audio is jumping slightly. Any advice on what might be causing this and how to fix it? I have been using Audacity and the same setup for many years, and I have changed nothing on my end. Could it be the new release that is the problem?
Dropouts are usually caused by something interrupting and “hogging” the system.
The link above gives some suggestions but It can be tricky because the operating system is ALWAYS multitasking and interrupting, even if you’re only running one application. Whatever is interrupting doesn’t have to be using a lot of total CPU power, it just has to hog the system for a few milliseconds too long and you get buffer overflow and a glitch.
If none of the suggestions work and you’re on Windows there is a free online book about optimizing Windows for audio called Glitch Free.
Older versions are here if you want to try rolling-back.
Thanks very much, DVDdoug - yeah, it’s a tricky one. I am running a fairly powerful iMac and nothing has changed recently. I am running 3.6.4 and watching the Activity Monitor on my Mac, and I am not seeing anything hogging the CPU. I think I’ll start by boosting the buffer to 300ms…
Initial test shows no drop outs
Hopefully that resolves it for the next batch of VO.
