Recording gets automatically louder[SOLVED]

I am using a new logitech usb microphone, on Windows 7 Professional with Audacity 2.0.3. I just started using the headset today. When I record, the volume automatically increases and gets very loud!. Is there some setting I need to adjust? Is there a problem with the headset? This increase does not happen when I record using the computer’s internal microphone.

Thanks!

Do you mean the longer you record for, the louder it gets until it distorts? Make sure you are actually choosing the Logitech as input device in Device Toolbar. Turn off Transport > Software Playthrough so that it is unchecked.

Or do you just mean when you change to select the Logitech as input device in Audacity, that the input slider in Mixer Toolbar goes to right, or becomes greyed out on maximum? Try right-click over the speaker icon by the system clock > Recording Devices. Right-click over the Logitech > Properties. Then click the “Levels” tab and adjust the input slider. Also look there if there is a “boost” or “AGC” setting that you can uncheck to make the mic record less loudly. It may be behind an “Advanced” button.

Gale,
I did choose the logitech device, and after about 5 seconds, the recording gets louder and gets to a maximum level and stays at that level - the slider does go to the right. I will check the settings you mentioned and let you know if that fixed it. Thanks!

Gale,
It was the AGC custom setting that was set causing the recording sound to increase - I tested with it and without it checked to verify if that was the problem.

Thank you!!!
