Hello, I have downloaded some music from the i/e that is already in wave format. However, there is some disturbing background noises, hums etc.

I thought that maybe I could run the thru audacity and re-record to wave to eliminate the background signs, but it did not work.

Is this not possible?

It depends on what you’re trying to remove. If it’s just hum, you might be able to use Audacity (I would recommend 1.3.3 for any Noise Removal you want to do).

I should also tell you that transferring an audio file from one format to another will NEVER remove sounds. That kind of data conversion is only capable of adding extra noise to a file. It’s always best to hold off on converting audio from one format to another until the very last step.
