I have some old tape cassettes I’d like to digitize. What kind of cable do I need to connect the cassette player (which has a URL plughole) to my PC (Windows XP Service Pack 3)? How do I set my Audacity 2.0.1. to record the input from the cassette player? Thanks - Walthariu
This set of tutorials from the manual should help you get sorted out: http://manual.audacityteam.org/help/manual/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html

Thanks for the general info. But I still need to know what connection cable is needed to hook up my USB cassette deck to my PC for Audio to record the sound. I guess the one end must have a USB plug to fit the USB output on the deck and the other end must have a pin plug for the computer? Where do I plug that into the PC?
Thanks - Walthariu
Your USB deck should have come with a USB lead (most of them do) with USB connectors at both ends - plug this between your computer and the deck.
Turn the power on on the deck and plug the USB cable before you fire up Audacity.

Thanks! That’s all I need to know.

After you get the cassette player connected and any drivers that MIGHT have come with the cassette player AND turned on, then start Audacity, goto EDIT> PREFERENCES> and Devices> The interface host should be MME The Playback Device Should be YOUR Sound card ie: REALTEK HD AUDIO OUTPUT and the Recording device should be USB AUDIO CODEC 2 Channels. The rest should be default until you get the hang of what you want to do. then the sky is the limit. Good Luck and hope this helped Marty
