Recording Device Not Found error

Audacity 3.2.1, Windows 11.
In the past I have been able to record audio that’s being played back via my soundcard (sometimes had to try different host settings) but now Audacity can’t find a recording device, and when I go to windows sound settings under input device is says no devices found.

My first though is that the soundcard has been disabled in the Device Manager, but you have probably already checked that.

Under system/sound/all sound devices I see

Speakers, Cirrus Logic Superior High Definition Audio. default device

DELL 1908FP, HD Audio Driver for Display Audio, Disabled

The 1908 is my monitor. I don’t see a sound card listed as a device. Audacity shows the Speakers as both playback and recording devices. Interesting… I just changed the Recording Channels setting in Audacity from mono to stereo and now I can record. I guess for some reason the soundcard is shown as Speakers?

Maybe one of the driver files has become corrupted.

I am not much of a hardware guy, but I bet one of the other elves who hang out on this forum can be more enlightening.
