I purchased a Super USB Cassette Capture unit and downloaded Audacity…. I have been unable to get a stable connection between the two… I can record for a period of time from 4-5 seconds up to 20 minutes but at some point Audacity crashes. In addition, some times it won’t record at all…just give me a series of blips…
I have tried it on 2 different machines… an iMac running Yosemite 10.10.5 and a Macbook Pro running High Sierra… I have had issues on both although not always the same problem. In addition, the sound quality of the audio capture is often poor with background noise….
Should I blame the cassette capture unit or is there something that I can do in Audacity to correct the problem?
What kind of background noise?
Which version of Audacity? (look in “Audacity menu > About Audacity”)
2.2.2
The current version of Audacity is 2.3.0, which you can get here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/
What kind of background noise?
I get 2 kinds of background noise:
- a constant hum
- a series of closely spaced rhythmic clicks
Some times I get one, sometimes the other…
Probably, but there’s a few things that you can try first.
If you’ve not already done so, shut down the computer completely and then restart it.
Check the USB lead and the connectors. Ensure that they are all in good condition and the connection is secure.
Try resetting Audacity’s Preferences as described here: Preferences - Audacity Manual
Thanks, I will… I want to thank you for your help…I now realize that there is a whole lot that I need to know…so I am going to do my research. I will get back to you when I have some real questions…another case of “shooting first and asking questions later”.
